Good luck to the class of 2016! There is a bright future ahead!
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol. Here are some photos from the awards ceremony below. Congratulations to all PHS winners! This spring I had the opportunity to attend the Teacher Symposium at the Visual Arts Center of NJ. This year’s Teachers’ Symposium, Explore Narrative Painting, was held in conjunction with Recharging the Image: Selections from the Mott-Warsh Collection. Exhibiting artist Philemona Williamson discussed her practice of creating narrative paintings that investigate the lives of adolescents of all races and genders. The group then engaged in gallery exercises inspired by the exhibition, Recharging the Image: Selections from the Mott-Warsh Collection. Later, Williamson led a hands-on painting workshop guiding participants to develop their own personal narrative using childhood memories. It was an exciting day!
May and June have been so busy that it has been hard to keep up here. I'm going to start posting some events and happenings from the last few weeks. Starting with the AMAZING High School ART SHOW!!!
